Flame Retardant Cotton

is this going to burn me? help with science fair project please?

im doing a science fair project and it is trying to make a cool flame, cool enough to touch. I got the idea online and im going to pour lighter fluid onto pure cotton fabric and light it. if the flame is cool enough i want to be able to touch it. at first i though it was calling for fire retardant, which some work by cooling the flame, but i realized its asking me for lighter fluid. Am i going to burn myself? i hardly seems safe, but ive done a lot of research on the internet and have been getting mixed responses.it also said i could use petroleum jelly to coat my hands and protect burns (that flammable too right??) im I going to have to find a new project? HELP PLEASE???

Don’t even think about it. This is not safe.

The cotton fabric won’t do anything helpful. In fact, it makes things more dangerous, because the burning fabric could very easily set fire to surrounding material and start a large fire you wouldn’t be able to put out. Fire is not something to play around with. There are plenty of other really cool science projects you can do that are perfectly safe.
