Flux Cored Welding

Do Flux Core welders require gas?

I am looking into buying a flux core welder to weld in some floor pans in my car, but i dont know if i need Welding Gas to do this. I would like to just buy a flux core welder, but i am not too sure if i need gas. Also, if it does require gas, how much does it usually cost to buy a tank of gas?

The flux core performs the same shielding action that the gas would.

A flux core set up is cheaper and can be used to do what you want, but it is tricky. A gas shielded set is easier for a novice to perfect, but practice on your wife’s Cadillac before trying it out on something nice!

You might need to do some research into welding a bit further. You need to learn the brazing, hammer welding, MIG, TIG differences before you decide. It may also be cheaper to prepare all your metal, then farm out the welding than it would be for you to purchase equipment. Also, check into your local trade school. There may be welding Class offered there and your floor pans could be a class project.
