What is the ‘lens’ on the front of the Env touch for?

On the side of my new env touch with the touch screen there is a small lens that looks like a camera lens but the camera is on the back..nothing in the manual about it. Anyone know?

yes funny thing i asked my friend and what it is …………. its a sensor for when u put it up to ur ear on a call it turns the screen off………… dont believe me call someone and cover the sensor with your finger and whooa the screen turns off
