2001 vw gti lens covers?

I’m trying to take off my headlight covers so I can clean the inside of them..any advice?

You would have to put them in the oven for a while to separate the adhesive that holds the lens to the light assembly then pry them apart with a thin screwdriver or a large case opener tool. They are sealed and shouldn’t need cleaning unless something got in through the port for the bulb or there is a crack. If you want to “clean” them because they are hazy then that is UV damage from the sun on the external layer of plastic. Use a mildly coarse sandpaper to etch the top layer and then wet sand with finer sandpaper until it is clear again. After it’s clear, polish the lens with a good quality plastic polish like Meguiar’s PlastX to “unscratch” the surface. If they aren’t too hazy, there are headlight restoration kits that come with buffing pads that aren’t as aggressive (or effective) as the sandpaper method.
