have 50inch vizio plasma with no coax, have cancelled cable and just want air local antenna. how do i get? thx?

just looking to know what I need ie. antenna/cable box/ vcr to get local antenna channels with no coax input on my plasma. cancelled my cable service. thanks i have the vizio p50hd, 4 yr. old.

Well an antenna can capture the free over-the-air signals for you. That’s not that big of a deal. But to my understanding it will use coaxial. So, you need some kind of converter box that can turn the coaxial into other connection types for your TV.

So you need to hit up online electronics vendors for cable tuners or digital decoders (I’ve seen them called both). Or essentially what you’re looking for is an “unlocked” cable/satellite set top box. The key is that you need something that isn’t going to have to be “activated” by a cable company in order to actually work. Then you can run the antenna feed into one of those and then use its HDMI or Component HD out to feed your TV the HD over-the-air signals.

I couldn’t find a lot of these readily available though, so it might take some leg work on your end to track these down.

An RF modulator (fairly easy to find) I believe could also do this for you. But the problem with those is that, as far as I’ve ever seen, they are only SD output based (typically RCA composite). So while it would work, you won’t get the best image out of it.
