Tesla Coil Spark Gap Quenching?

What is a good method of quenching a static spark gap for a tesla coil? I tried a small 12 V fan but it didn’t have much of an effect. The electrodes of my spark gap are made of brass.
Also, what type of bulb do you use to create the plasma globe effect using a tesla coil?

Try blowing the vapors of an organic non-flammable compound into the spark gap. Ethylene glycol (anti-freeze) is a possibility. You can use the globe from a plasma lamp.
