Of all the different welding processes, MIG is by far the easiest. However, it would be very difficult to explain everything here.

The best thing you could do is take a class at your local community college. The second best thing you could do is find a local welder who is willing to teach you a few things. If you were local to me, I would offer to have you out to my garage one weekend for an explanation and some tips. Many welders would refuse, some would ask for payment or work in exchange, some would do it for free. Don’t be discouraged if you are turned down. At the least, you should offer to bring some of your host’s favorite drinks as payment.

The third best thing you could do, is look for the forums on millerwelds.com. They have lots and lots of pointers, tips, manuals, and people who want to help. It’s nowhere NEAR as good as in-person help, but it might get you started.
