Does the short stop back up 2nd base or does the 2nd basemen back up the shortstop?

When a baserunner is attempting to steal 2nd base, does the short stop back up the 2nd basemen when the catcher is throwing to get the runner out, or does the 2nd basemen back up the shortstop?

When playing baseball, it’s all about communication when you’re on the field. Whoever you think would have a better chance at getting the runner out at second is up to the shortstop and the second baseman (maybe even the catcher). However, the catcher needs to know who is… there’s no rule. The 2B and SS need to discuss it on the field or on the bench… sometime BEFORE the play takes place and tell the catcher “I GOT THE BAG!” Whoever has the bag, has the bag. Whoever doesn’t, backs up.
