What would happen if someone fired a gun, but the tip was welded shut?

This question may sound ridiculous and meaningless, but here goes. What would happen if someone took a gun, and a blow torch, then used the blow torch to weld the end of the barrel of the gun shut, then someone fired the gun. I imagine the gun would explode.
I’m writing a screen play for a shoot ‘em up.

If the barrel wasn’t welded shut, when the gun was fired, the bullet would push all the gasses ahead of it out of the barrel.

Now, if you weld the end of the barrel shut, the gasses have no place to go, and they start to compress. If the pressure from the compressing gasses didn’t blow the barrel open, the bullet striking the plug would.
